BACKGROUND: Interviews With Monster Girls is a great high school lark about a biology teacher that is interested in demi-humans. The US series took the name to associate it with the ecchi series Everyday Life With Monster Girls. The difference is most of the "Monster Girls" (Per one of the main characters, I'll refer to them as "Demis" which is short for demi-humans) in Interviews are mostly young, high-school girls. They're all born into regular families.Tetsuo Takahashi is a biology teacher that has been fascinated with Demis for years. He never got to pursue this interest in college, as every attempt to study them was immediately shut down by the college administration. Now he's been teaching biology for several years and has yet to meet a single Demi. This changes on the first day as he discovers first, one of his colleagues is a demi, and he meets three students that are Demis.First year, Hikari is a vampire, but she has a fraternal twin sister, Himari that is a pure human. The busty, first year, Kyoko, is a dulahan and is the second character in the group. Lastly is Yuki, also a first year, who is a snow woman. When upset, and she cries, her tears are ice. While not a student, the last member of the core group is math teacher, Sakie Satō, who is a succubus.===============================================================Volume seven Introduces us to yet another Demi: Kaoru, a new student at the school. She's a Kijimuna from Okinawa. Apparently, she has the power to read the minds of others, which had put her at odds with her former classmates in Okinawa. She comes in with a chip on her shoulder, and seem somewhat brash, even as she joins Takahashi's Demi Support Group. The girls try to bring her along to be a normal high school student and enjoy normal teen things. The last chapter, we're all in for a big surprise when the school girls meet at Yoko's flat and discuss Zashiko, Yoko's Zashiki-warashi "roommate." Science and the metaphysical come together. This is a great volume, set after the anime ended, but the foundations for this book were laid down in previous volumes and even the anime. Since it is all about moving the story forward, I have to give this one 5 stars.
